Press release from Equatorial Guinea’s Press and Information Office

In connection with the news appeared in some Spanish media about the lawsuit of the “Pro Human Rights Association”, Miguel Oyono Ndong Mifumu, Republic’s adviser responsible for Presidential Missions, on behalf of the Equatorial Guinea’s government would like to declare that:

“The lawsuit of the Pro Human Rights Association joins in the ridiculous initiative taken some days ago by a French court. It was stopped immediately by the Prosecution in Paris…. Our government is not going to waste its time answering to these attacks coming from certain countries, as a result of the economical crisis they are suffering.”

“The president Mr.Obiang Nguema has neither property nor any kind of funds in Spain. We consider this information as a new media stroke to intoxicate and misinform the population. It happens once in a while. Of course, the main aim of these attacks is to cloud the relationship between the Spanish and the Equatorial Guinean governments that both are trying hard to improve”-

“Contrary to what this lawsuit implies, Non-Governmental Organizations – clearly looking for publicity through this kind of initiative – are often involved in money laundering activities in Africa. And, we consider absolutely ridiculous trying to open an investigation there where everybody knows there is no need to investigate “

“In Equatorial Guinea we are immune to this kind of manipulations. We are not a corrupt country and we are not involved in drug trade, as other media also assert”

“All these ridiculous and selfish manipulations could not slow down the progress taking place in the country, which is growing everyday, and will never be able to do so”

Miguel Oyono Ndong Mifumu, Republic’s Adviser responsible for the Presidential Missions.
